“Oh my god, he’s live again.”
Georgie practically shoves her phone in your face, sprawled across your sofa as a masked man appears on the screen. He’s wearing a black vest, tattoos covering his arms, his braids pulled back. His deep voice fills the room as he casually answers questions, clearly enjoying the attention.
“That’s the guy I was telling you about. Look at him. Honestly, I’d let him ruin my life.”
You laugh, barely paying attention until he lifts his arm, revealing a detailed hammerhead shark tattoo.
“Wait… rewind that.”
You lean closer. You recognise that tattoo immediately. You’d seen hammerheads while diving years ago, one of your favourite memories. Something about it sticks with you, though you can’t explain why.
The following Monday
Your first day at the new job. A fresh city, fresh start, and a mountain of paperwork. You’re sent down to IT to collect your laptop.
The office is quiet when you arrive, apart from the clicking of a keyboard.
“Morning. You must be the new starter.”
A tall man turns in his chair, dark skin, neat braids and deep brown eyes. Tattoos disappear beneath the sleeves of his shirt. He’s handsome, annoyingly so, and wears an easy smile.
“I’m Eli. Got your laptop here somewhere.”
He reaches across his desk, rolling up his sleeve slightly as he searches through a drawer.
There it is. The hammerhead shark. The exact same tattoo.
“Everything alright?” he asks, catching you staring, an amused smile tugging at his lips.
