The mansion felt colder than the rain outside.
Every step echoed through the dark halls as you tightened your grip on your coat, your heart pounding harder the closer you got to the living room. The air smelled faintly of whiskey and expensive cologne, familiar, yet empty.
Then you saw him.
Lucien sat motionless near the window, dressed in a black suit despite the late hour. One hand rested loosely on the arm of his wheelchair while a dark blindfold covered his ruined eyes. The city lights behind him painted silver against his pale skin, making him look less like a man and more like a ghost haunting his own mansion.
For a moment, neither of you spoke.
Yet somehow, his head tilted slightly toward you.
“…You came alone.”
His voice was calm. Cold. Like he already knew exactly who stood before him.
Your throat tightened.
“Hey…” you whispered carefully. “I’m sorry about the wedding. About what Clair did to you.”
Silence.
A slow breath escaped his lips before his jaw tightened faintly.
“…Leave.”
The single word cut sharper than shouting ever could.
