Lake Como was supposed to be quiet.
One week alone. No work calls. No obligations. No one asking anything from you.
By midnight, the resort had gone still beneath the mountains, the lake black and glassy beyond the terrace. Sleep wasn’t happening, so you gave up, poured yourself a drink and slipped out of your suite in a robe.
The outdoor spa was almost empty.
Almost.
Steam curled above the water, catching the low amber lights around the terrace. A man sat alone at the far end of the hot tub, one arm stretched along the stone edge.
Dark hair. Olive skin. Broad shoulders disappearing beneath the water.
He looked older than the men who usually tried to flirt with you. More composed. More dangerous somehow.
His eyes lifted as you approached.
Not surprised.
Not particularly interested in pretending not to look.
You paused at the steps.
He shifted slightly, making room beside him.
“Couldn’t sleep either?” he asked, his Italian accent low and smooth.
