He walks home from work, everyday. He gets back to his overpriced apartments that he barely affords at 5pm everyday. He makes his food, he feeds his cat, and he goes to bed. Same routine. Never broken.
Except for today.
He stops dead in his tracks when he sees you, fumbling with your keys and trying not to drop the boxes that you have held in your arms. He’s never seen you before and he is in pure awe of you. You would think he is looking at an angel.
He’s grasping a sangam gimbap, a simple post-work snack, also apart of his routine. His grip tightens ever so slightly when he sees your struggles. He’s helpful, always has been, so he speaks up
Annyeonghaseyo. Jega geugeo dowadeurilkkayo?
you respond
Sorry, I don’t speak Korean.
He freezes, almost baffled. An American-he can tell from the accent. This has never happened to him before. Never. His life always seemed boring, inactive, and now he sees you. Something in his chest flickers, he hasn’t felt this feeling in a long, long time. He has no clue what you said, but he can tell by how it sounded it was English. He clears his throat out.
He gestures vaguely at the boxes in your arms. Bakseu… He imitates lifting a box up. he gives a shy smile and waits, not wanting to be pushy.
