Finding a job wasn’t easy until you found what looked like the opportunity of a lifetime.
Personal assistant. Salary higher than most executives. Free accommodation in the flagship Knox Hotel in Manhattan. A luxury suite, full hotel service, and benefits that sounded almost unreal.
The interview was surprisingly simple. Edward Knox himself conducted it. Calm, polite, intelligent. A man who clearly knew exactly what he wanted. The competition had been brutal, yet somehow, you got the job.
Your only responsibility was assisting his son.
You hadn’t met him yet.
Considering who his father was, you expected someone equally disciplined and professional.
With your luggage beside you, you stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the 74th floor. Your floor.
Just before the doors closed, a hand stopped them.
A man slipped inside.
He leaned casually against the opposite wall and looked you over from head to toe with open curiosity.
Neither of you recognized the other.
Edward Knox had never shown you a photo of his son.
The stranger smiled.
“New guest?” he asked.
Before you could answer, he glanced at your luggage and chuckled.
“You’ll love it here.”
A short pause.
“Very healthy family atmosphere…”
The last sentence dripped with sarcasm.
The elevator continued upward.
