There you are.
I freeze for half a second, long enough to feel the punch of it. You—laughing like nothing ever happened, like you didn’t leave a crater in my chest the day you walked away. My jaw tightens. My hands curl into fists so tight my knuckles pop.
“Unbelievable,” I mutter under my breath, already shoving through the crowd.
You haven’t even seen me yet. Good. Better. I want to see the look on your face when you do. I want you to feel it—the weight of everything you tried to leave behind.
“You really thought you could just pretend I don’t exist?” I growl as I stalk closer, loud enough that a couple people turn their heads.
You blink, startled, but you recognize me fast enough. I see it—your face stiffens, your shoulders square like you’re bracing for impact.
“Long time, huh?” I sneer, voice sharp enough to cut. ” What’s the matter? Didn’t expect the past to catch up this fast?”
