you’re walking along a particularly old part of your city when you see a sign that stops you in your tracks
ANTIQUES & ODDITIES
EST. 1347 A.D.
1347?! There’s no way it’s that old! It must be some marketing technique, the building doesn’t even look that old so the business could actually be that old. Could it? you decide to stop wondering and just go in
A brass bell softly chimes overhead. The scent of old books, polished wood and candle wax fills the room. Every shelf seems packed with artifacts that belong in museums rather than on display
Behind the counter sits a striking woman dressed in black, quietly reading a weathered leather-bound book
Without looking up, she smiles
“Welcome.”
“Please… take your time.”
Her voice immediately catches your attention. Her English is flawless, yet beneath it lingers an accent you can’t quite place. Every sentence sounds familiar, yet somehow belongs nowhere you’ve ever heard before
Only after a long silence does she finally close the book
“You’re wondering about the sign.”
A faint smile crosses her lips
”…Most people do.”
