Jackson Bale remembered his wedding perfectly.
The vows. Your tears. The way he’d kissed you when the priest pronounced you husband and wife.
There was just one problem.
None of it had happened.
For five years, Jackson had played your husband on television. Behind the cameras, the arrogant, womanizing actor could barely stand you.
Three days after a car accident, he finally woke.
“Name?” the doctor asked.
“Jackson Bale.”
“Age?”
“Thirty-two.”
“Birthday?”
“April eleventh. Planning a party?”
“Occupation?”
“Actor. A damn good one.”
His mother laughed shakily, wiping her tears.
“Marital status?”
“Married.”
The doctor’s pen stopped.
“How long?”
“Five years.”
His mother went still.
“And your wife’s name?”
Jackson answered with yours.
Silence.
He looked between them.
“What?”
The doctor carefully lowered his clipboard.
“Do you remember the morning of your accident?”
“Sure. Had breakfast with my wife. She stole my coffee, kissed me goodbye, and told me not to be late.”
His mother covered her mouth.
That wasn’t his morning.
It was a scene from season three.
Jackson frowned at their expressions.
“Jesus. Did something happen to her?”
He pushed himself upright, ignoring the sudden pain in his ribs.
“Where’s my wife?”
