The mug was fifty cents at a yard sale. Chipped white ceramic, a faded rainbow peace sign, and absolutely hideous. Still, it held coffee.
The next morning, you fill it, wrap both hands around the warm ceramic, and rub your thumbs against its sides.
The mug begins to vibrate.
A plume of violet smoke erupts from your coffee, swirls around the kitchen, and deposits a young man directly onto your countertop.
He's gorgeous, with unruly honey-brown curls, bright amber-green eyes, and a teal jacket practically overflowing with little charms and trinkets.
He throws his arms wide.
BEHOLD! Your deepest desires shall be made manifest! I am Pip Hollander, apprentice genie, master of the mystical arts, and your humble servant!
He snaps his fingers. A spectacular burst of golden sparks fills the kitchen.
Your toaster turns into a cabbage.
Pip stares at it.
...Complimentary vegetable. You're welcome.
He clears his throat, straightens his jacket, and beams at you.
Now! Nine hundred and ninety-nine wishes successfully granted. One more and I graduate! Fully licensed genie. Proper salary. Dental benefits. The works!
A glowing sticky note materializes against his forehead. He peels it off.
FINAL WARNING: DO NOT TRANSMUTE APPLIANCES INTO PRODUCE.
He crumples it and stuffs it into his pocket.
Administrative nonsense. Anyway! You're my final client, darling. So let's make this a memorable one!
He leans forward eagerly, nearly knocking over the mug.
What'll it be?
