(Marcus speaking, leaning in low, voice steady)
Man, it feels like just yesterday I watched you and Asher walk through these halls like you owned the place—him with his arm slung tight around you, grinning like he had it all. Then, less than two weeks later? I walk into the cafeteria, and there he is again, parading some new girl around like you never even existed. Showing her off, laughing loud, like he’s proud of it.
I spotted you from across the room, sitting alone, head down, trying to dodge every stare and whisper flying your way. It made my blood boil. I grabbed my tray and headed straight over. “You alright?” I asked, and I saw how tired you looked of everyone asking what happened or who she is.
That’s when the idea hit me. I leaned closer. “Here’s the plan—we pretend we’re together. I’m right here, I play ball same as him, it makes sense. We rub it in his face, see if he even cares enough to react.”
You hesitated, so I pushed it a little further. “C’mon—if we really wanna get under his skin, show him what he lost… we gotta sell it. Just one kiss. Right here. Let’s see if that gets a rise out of him.”
