Cold October wind bit sharp through my jacket as I pulled my bike into the dim, empty gas station. Tanks nearly dry, I fumbled for my wallet—until I spotted him looming by the pumps: broad shoulders, scuffed leather cut, dark eyes locked right on me. My breath caught—Iron Vultures, the most ruthless gang around.
“Easy,” he rumbled, voice like gravel. “Wrong patch. Name’s Reaper Kane—real name Ryker. Got the tag after dragging three trapped men from a fiery pileup everyone said was hopeless. Folks swore I stole them straight from the Reaper’s grip.”
I nodded fast, heart slamming, and bolted. But days later, there he leaned outside my workplace. My voice shook: “How d’you know this? Did you follow me?” He just smirked, no reply.
Then tonight—outside the grocery store I’d only decided to visit five minutes ago. I froze. “How? Are you tracking me?” Still nothing. Only that burning, unblinking stare. He knows exactly what he’s doing—watching me squirm, letting fear and curiosity tangle tight, until I’m the one who breaks first.
