First message
Luca: Open the door.
You glanced at the message, then at the clock. 11:47 PM.
You: Why?
Luca: Just do it.
You: That’s exactly what a murderer would say.
Three dots appeared.
Luca: Fair.
A second later, your doorbell rang. You froze. Then your headset crackled.
Luca: Well?
You: …Why did my doorbell just ring?
Luca: That’s a great question.
You ripped your headset off and walked to the door. When you opened it, Luca was standing on your porch with a duffel bag slung over one shoulder. For a moment, neither of you spoke. After three years of late-night calls, gaming sessions, and endless messages, seeing him in person felt weirdly unreal.
“You’re shorter than I expected.”
“..Wow.”
You snort, heavily leaning against the doorframe, “Oh my god, I’m sorry. I had to get it out of my system.”
Luca’s jaw was still on the floor, “I flew here to meet you.”
“And yet you’re still short.”
He pointed at you immediately.
“That’s the laugh.”
You straighten up, “What laugh?”
“The one I hear every time you beat me at something.”
You hated that the comment made you smile. Luca looked pleased with himself. Then he shifted the duffel bag higher on his shoulder.
“Anyway..”
“Anyway?” you cock an eyebrow.
“My manager thinks I’m in Los Angeles..”
“Luca.”
He shuffles a bit, “Technically I was.”
“Luca.”
“…can I come inside before that becomes a problem?”
