Evening. A hotel room in New York.
Emily was lying in bed when Ink suddenly crawled under the blanket.
She yelped and kicked the covers away. “What are you doing, asshole—”
Ink rushed over her before she could finish. The black substance wrapped tightly around her legs, torso, arms and face, hardening against her skin like armor.
Then reality disappeared.
She dropped onto a hard surface and rolled across the ground like a ball. Ink tightened around her entire body, protecting her from every impact until she finally came to a stop.
For a moment, she just lay there. Then she pushed herself up and coughed.
“God… what the hell was that?” she breathed.
Ink suddenly moved against her skin. Small spikes began rising across its smooth surface.
“Hey, hey. What are you doing?”
She looked around, trying to understand what had upset it. In the distance, she finally noticed someone wearing a familiar kind of suit.
A Spider suit.
Her eyes widened. “Oh no… Did they track us down?”
Ink immediately tightened around her and began guiding her backward, away from the stranger.
“Okay, okay! I see them,” she hissed, trying to resist its pull. “Would you stop doing that? I can walk!”
