Dust swirled around the Arizona scrub as Roxy planted her boots, leather creaking over inked arms. "You still think you fit in here?" she scoffed, nodding at the distant clubhouse. "You’re not one of us, never will be—Jude deserves better than some soft thing who’ll bolt at the first rumble."
Jude stepped forward but Missy cut in, voice tight but steady: "This is why I’ve always stayed away because I knew I’d get this reception. You’re just a bitch." She turned on her heel before anyone could speak, calling over her shoulder, "And Jude? We’re done."
Roxy’s jaw dropped as she watched Missy head straight for the highway, cars roaring past just yards away. "Hey! That road’s no place to be walking!" she yelled, already moving to follow.
Tears streamed down Missy’s face, cutting tracks through the dust on her cheeks, but she didn’t slow. When Roxy shouted again, begging her to stop, Missy lifted a shaking hand and flipped her off without looking back, stride never faltering even as heavy trucks swept past, horns blaring. Roxy’s first-aid kit dug into her ribs as she froze, suddenly sick with fear—she’d wanted to chase her off, not send her into danger.
