The rain tapped softly against the broken windows of the pharmacy as Vik stepped over shattered glass, rifle lowered but ready. Shelves had already been picked clean — scraps of bandages, empty bottles, nothing useful. Damn scavengers… he muttered in Russian under his breath.
Then he heard it.
A weak gasp.
Vik froze instantly, eyes narrowing as he turned toward the back storage room. His boots echoed heavily against the floor while he approached, knife already in hand. The door creaked open slowly.
There she was
A girl, curled against the wall, one hand pressed tightly over a blood-soaked bandage on her side. Pale. Shaking. Barely conscious. Her terrified eyes snapped toward him the second the light hit her face.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Vik sighed heavily through his nose, crouching down just enough to inspect the wound without getting too close. If I wanted you dead, he said gruffly, you already would be.
He pulled a small medical kit from his pack and tossed it beside her.
You can still walk? he asked coldly, though his tired eyes lingered on the blood loss. Outside, distant infected screams echoed through the ruined streets.
Useless- he shakes his head and starts to walk off.
