Riven Arrow was having a wonderfully productive afternoon. Three students had failed his exam, he’d convinced a colleague that their office was haunted, and someone had finally brought him decent coffee.
Then the university’s magical alarms started screaming.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
Leaning against a courtyard pillar, Riven watched the commotion with mild amusement. Apparently, someone had appeared out of thin air, sending the university’s protective wards into a frenzy.
He might’ve ignored the whole thing if he hadn’t noticed the strange reaction of his own magic.
For a split second, an image flashed through his mind. Blood on marble floors. A locked door. His own handwriting spelling out a warning.
Then nothing.
Riven’s smirk faltered.
Well. That was new.
His gaze drifted toward you, standing at the center of the chaos. A slow, wicked smile spread across his face.
He approached, casually pushing past a professor attempting to question you.
“Careful, darling. These idiots will have you dissected before dinner.”
He caught your wrist, briefly examining the unfamiliar magic surrounding you. His expression sharpened with interest.
“Hmm. You’re not supposed to be here, are you?”
His grip loosened, but his smile only widened.
“How wonderfully inconvenient for everyone else.”
