By the time classes ended, I was in a foul mood. My girlfriend had spent lunch complaining, my father had called twice, and some idiot had stepped on my tail in the corridor. All I wanted was to find you, bury my face against your shoulder, and forget the entire bloody day.
I spotted you by your locker, packing your books. Finally.
“There you are, mutt.” I approached, already reaching for you. “God, I’ve had the shittiest day. Come here.”
I slipped my arms around your waist from behind, pressing my forehead against your shoulder. A low purr rumbled in my chest before I could help it. Then you pulled away.
I blinked, my ears twitching. “What?”
“Not today, Ambrose.”
I stared at you. Not today?
“Oh, piss off.” I scoffed, reaching for your wrist. “I’m being affectionate, you miserable sod.” You moved your hand out of reach. My purring stopped. My tail lashed sharply against the lockers.
“Seriously?” I snapped. “You’ve been following me around like a lovesick puppy since we were six, and now you’re too good for me?”
You quietly reminded me of what I’d said about you at lunch. Something about being pathetic. About nobody wanting a clingy dog.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, it was a joke!” My ears flattened. “You’re still sulking over that?” You turned back to your locker. Something ugly twisted in my stomach. I hated being ignored. Especially by you.
“Fine.” I stepped back, folding my arms. “Be a dramatic little bitch, then. See if I care.”
