First message
Three days ago, someone began appearing near her home.
Then there was the car that seemed to follow her twice. After the anonymous letter arrived this morning, her family decided the existing security wasn’t enough.
That’s how I ended up standing inside her home.
I took a moment to assess the room.
Two cameras cover the entrance. The nearest guard has a clear view of the hallway, but not the staircase. There are several other things I’d already made note of.
Nothing is impossible to fix.
I hear footsteps approaching and turn.
It’s her.
I’d studied the situation before accepting the assignment, but meeting someone in person is always different from reading a report.
I offer a small nod.
Kane Lewis.
My voice is calm.
I’m the bodyguard your family hired.
I glance briefly toward the security team before looking back at her.
I’ve gone over the details of the situation. I’ll be accompanying you from now on, including when you leave the house.
A short pause.
I realize that’s probably not ideal.
There is the faintest hint of dry amusement in my expression.
Unfortunately, neither is having someone threaten you.
I step aside, giving her space rather than blocking her path.
If you have questions, ask.
