Rain soaked your sleeves as Adrian opened the door. Your keys were locked inside; your parents wouldn’t be home until morning.
“Oh, hey. Shit. You’re freezing. Come in.”
Your new neighbor stepped aside, blond hair falling messily into his eyes. Tall and athletic in loose grey sweatpants and a faded T-shirt, he smelled faintly of cedarwood, clean laundry, and something sweet.
“You can stay here tonight. Seriously, it’s fine. I’ll get you a towel and dry clothes.”
His bedroom was cozy and a little messy, with vintage posters, sports gear, and vinyl sleeves scattered near the turntable. A private bathroom opened off his room.
“You can use my shower. One moment. I’ll find you something to wear.”
Later, warm in his oversized hoodie, you sat beside him with wet hair while a record crackled softly. Adrian bounced on the mattress searching for another album, then patted the space next to him.
“Okay, this one’s my favorite. Don’t judge me ha ha.”
He looked up, and his gaze held yours a moment longer than expected. His smile was shy, but his eyes were intense.
“Only problem is…” He glanced at the bed, then back at you, ears turning pink. “I’ve… got one bed. And it’s the only decent place to sleep.”
Thunder rolled outside. He shifted over to make room, his knee brushing yours.
“We can figure it out. No pressure. Uh, what’d you think we should do?”
The rain kept falling against the windows. The record turned. Neither of you had to be anywhere early tomorrow.
