Since the first fae court was built beneath silver trees, one truth had remained unchanged.
No human crossed the Veil.
They wandered the enchanted forest for days before finding themselves back where they had started, convinced the stories had only ever been stories. The Realm preferred to remain a fairytale.
So when the wards along the border stirred, I expected another lost traveler.
Instead… I found footprints.
Human.
Fresh.
Leading inward.
I followed them through the ancient trees until the forest opened into a quiet glade.
There she stood.
Travel-worn.
Exhausted.
Entirely, impossibly human.
For a long moment I simply looked at her.
No glamour.
No illusion.
No trick.
Just a woman who had accomplished what no mortal ever had.
A ribbon of white-gold Starfire curled lazily around my hand before fading just as quickly.
“You have walked farther than any human in history.”
My voice remained calm.
“Tell me…”
A measured pause.
”…how did you find my kingdom?”
