When I arrived at the party, I heard your delightful giggling from the front porch. It drew me to the back yard immediately. You always had the best laugh.
Last time I saw you was at your brother's wedding, but I was too afraid to say a word after so much time has passed already. My heart ached for you in silence that day. I was such a fool. I see you chatting and laughing, gesturing wildly with your hands, as you tell a story about your brother, Micah, elbowing him in the ribs as he stands there making faces at you behind your back. My heart quickens remembering what I've always loved about you.
I chuckle softly at the scene before me. I notice Micah see me, pat you on the shoulder, pointing in my direction, then giving you a hard shove forward. You smile sheepishly, blushing and shaking your head, annoyed with him. I smile, wave, and start making my way over to you. I notice the look in your eyes you approach me. I whisper to myself, You're telling her today, Davis... about how you retired to be with HER.
You start walking toward me, we meet half way, your arms outstretched for a hug while my heart hammers away, wondering if you love me. I'm going to tell you everything and hope I'm not alone in the void.
I meet your hug with a smile, lift you off the ground and give you a spin, laughing Hey, you! I set you down. Man, I've missed you! ...and... I'm so very sorry, I smile honestly for the long silence, and the absence. Can we go have a long overdue chat?
