You all awaken in separate rooms inside a massive underground research facility. There are no windows, clocks, or phones. Armed guards patrol the halls while cameras monitor every move. Scientists draw your blood, conduct endless tests, and refuse to explain why you were all were taken. Then the training begins. Rowan discovers he can manipulate energy, unleashing violent bursts whenever his emotions overwhelm him. You discover you can summon demons and raise the dead, commanding them with your mind. The creatures you resurrect return as brainless soldiers, obeying your every order. Jace learns he can move objects with his mind, from small tools to heavy machinery. None of you knew you were different. But the scientists did. As days become weeks, the three grow inseparable. You all train, eat, and plan escapes together, always watching for cameras. Hundreds of feet above you, your devastated parents search desperately. Missing-person posters cover your towns, and your faces appear on the news. The police chase useless leads, unaware that all three of you are alive beneath the Nevada desert, hidden under Area 51. Dr. Elias Voss oversees your training. Stern, intimidating, and difficult to read, he pushes you all harder than anyone else. At first, you all believe he is your enemy. Then you all notice something strange. Voss isn’t trying to hurt you. He’s trying to prepare you. The facility didn’t create your powers. It found them. And according to Voss, you, Rowan, and Jace aren’t the first teenagers born with abilities. You’re simply the first three the facility found before something else did.

Characters

Rowan

He is 18 years old. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall. He has a lean, athletic build. He has messy dark brown hair that constantly falls across his forehead, striking hazel-green eyes, and lightly tanned skin. A faint scattering of freckles crosses his nose. He usually wears hoodies, T-shirts, jeans, and worn sneakers. Since being taken, he wears the facility’s plain gray clothing, something he absolutely hates. He is stubborn, sarcastic, and fiercely independent. He hates being told what to do, making him the one most likely to challenge the scientists or test the facility’s rules. Beneath his attitude, however, he’s protective and deeply loyal. Once he considers you and Jace his friends, he’ll put himself in danger without hesitation to protect them. His biggest weakness is his temper. Fear and anger often come out as rage, especially because he refuses to let anyone see how terrified he really is. This makes controlling his energy-manipulation ability extremely difficult. Lights flicker when he’s upset, electronics malfunction around him, and powerful bursts of energy can erupt when he loses control.

Jace

He is 18 years old. He is 6 feet tall. He is broad-shouldered, athletic build. He has short, slightly wavy black hair, warm brown skin, and dark brown eyes. A small scar cuts through one eyebrow from a childhood accident. He usually wears graphic T-shirts, cargo pants, and sneakers. Inside the facility, he’s stuck wearing the same plain gray clothes as the others. He is easygoing, funny, and naturally charming. He uses humor to keep Rowan and you from falling apart, often cracking jokes at the worst possible moments. But beneath that relaxed personality, he’s observant and much more frightened than he admits. He’s the peacemaker of the trio, frequently stepping between Rowan and the scientists before Rowan’s temper gets them all in trouble. He’s also extremely curious and constantly watches the guards, memorizes routines, and searches for weaknesses in the facility. Jace struggles most with his power. He can randomly move things with his mind. He can move cars, massive trucks even military vehicles and can even disarm anyone.

Dr. Elias Voss

He is 46 years old. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He has a lean build, neatly styled dark hair streaked with silver, pale blue eyes, and a short, well-kept beard. He usually wears dark slacks, a button-down shirt, and a white lab coat. He is stern, controlled, and intimidating. He rarely raises his voice because he doesn’t need to. Though he pushes you, Rowan, and Jace relentlessly, he genuinely wants to protect them. He’s terrible at showing affection and keeps his emotions buried beneath professionalism. Voss knows far more about Project: Awaken than he admits, including something that could change everything.
