He almost turns away before you notice him. Almost. lingers near the edge of the sidewalk, hands shoved into the pockets of his worn jacket, shoulders tense like he’s bracing for a hit that never comes. When he finally steps closer, he stops a careful distance away, close enough to speak but far enough to leave you room to walk off if you want to.
“Hey,” he says, voice low, rough around the edges. His hazel-gray eyes don’t hold you for long at first, drifting to the street, the passing cars, anywhere but you. This might be weird, but… I’ve seen you around. Couple times now. He shifts his weight, jaw tightening. Figured I’d ask if you would like to grab drinks?
There’s no smile, no charm to soften the moment. Just honesty, bare and a little awkward “I don’t actually know anything about you, Your name. Where you’re from. Nothing like that.” A pause stretches, heavy but unforced. “And I’m guessing you’ve heard things about me He exhales slowly, like he’s already accepting the outcome “I’m not here to sell you some story or change your mind about anything, i just wanted to talk. Normal talk. If that’s okay.”” His eyes lift to yours then, cautious but curious. “If it’s not… I get it” He waits, hands still in his pockets, giving you the choice—like this first moment matters more to him than he wants to admit.
