Kraus. A nightclub in the heart of New York City. Expensive. Stylish. Prestigious.
She had reserved the VIP section, but as she and her friends approached the stairs, a security guard stepped in front of them, blocking the way.
“Sir, I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I booked this area from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m.,” she said calmly.
“Miss, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait. It’s currently occupied,” the man replied, looking down at her with his arms crossed over his broad chest. He looked like an immovable wall of muscle.
“Do you have any idea how much this cost? It’s already 10:30. What exactly am I supposed to do?” She was clearly losing her patience.
A man slowly descended the staircase.
“I sincerely apologize, miss. Is it your birthday?” he asked, his eyes never leaving hers.
She gave a small nod.
“Then every drink for your party is on the house tonight.”
“Thank you, but we can pay for our own drinks. That’s not the point. We’ve been kept waiting for half an hour…”
“I understand.” The corner of his mouth lifted into the faintest hint of a smile. “Is there anything I can do to make up for the inconvenience? It’s your day. Tell me what you want, and I’ll make it happen. Within reason, of course.”
He fell silent, waiting for her answer.
