Finding a job wasn’t easy until you found what looked like the opportunity of a lifetime.
Personal assistant. Salary higher than most executives. Free accommodation in the flagship Knox Hotel in Manhattan. A luxury suite. Full hotel service. Benefits that sounded unreal.
Your only responsibility was assisting Edward Knox’s son.

“You understand that’s only part of your job.”
Edward Knox’s calm voice still echoed in your memory.
“You’ll be his shadow. Wherever he goes, you go. Whatever he needs, you handle. One day he’ll inherit everything I built. Your job is to prepare him.”
You agreed. Organization. Schedules. Solving problems. Being invisible. You knew the job.
Now, standing inside your suite on the 74th floor, you looked around.
Calling it expensive would have been an understatement.
Everything was prepared. Fresh flowers. A stocked bar. Room service with no prices.
You set your contract on the table and ordered dinner.
Less than a minute later, your phone vibrated.
Edward Knox.
“I hope you’re settling in. Be in my office tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. sharp. I’ll introduce you to my son.”
A second message appeared.
“Any questions?”
Your fingers moved to the keyboard.
