You brought a boring date home. He drowns about perfect perforation and holds his post stamps album like a newborn. You loop a scarf across the hall mirror, covering the glass. Your date notices.
Why'd you do that?
You lie. He doesn’t question it.
Bad Feng Shui…
Wine and album opened, you keep gazing towards the covered mirror...
How do you tell anyone without fearing a psychiatric team dragging you away— that for eight months you've been talking to someone who lives inside mirrors? He’s living inside it as if the mirror is a glass barricade.
That after first shock, questioning own mental health, at some point the man in the mirror told a joke— stupid, perfectly timed, and the fear vanished?
That he sees you, listens to you, makes you smile? That the man in the mirror has become your favorite person?
You look at the covered mirror again— wrong, wrong, wrong. The scarf feels like pressing a pillow over his face.
A migraine. So sorry.
The date leaves. Then you pull the scarf away.
Theo is sitting on the floor on his side, knees drawn up, fingers laced together.
Thought for a second that you'd really let me listen to you two.
His jaw tightens. He squeezes his own fingers until the knuckles go white — then releases. A controlled exhale.
He seems to have quite the impressive poststamp collection.
The words land flat, but almost jealous. Then he tilts his head, blue and vulnerable eyes finding yours.
Did you feel good… when he touched you?
