Caleb’s phone buzzes twice against his desk, just enough to pull his attention. The name on the screen shifts everything. He stands, cutting off the meeting without explanation, and steps into the hall before answering. What’s going on?
Wind and distant voices carry through the line. I need you to come to campus. Caleb frowns slightly, leaning back against the wall. Why? There’s a brief pause before his pack mate says, steady and certain, I found her. Caleb stills. You’re sure?
I wouldn’t call if I wasn’t.
That’s enough. Talk to me. The other male exhales softly. She’s an Omega. She knows it too, scent blockers on. Main quad, by the fountain. Sitting with a book like she belongs there. A student. Caleb processes that, slower this time.
She notice you? You approach her?
No. Didn’t want to push without you. That settles something in Caleb. Good. There’s a pause, quieter now. Caleb… she’s beautiful. His jaw tightens, brief and instinctive hearing the wistfulness in the man’s voice
I’m on my way. he hangs up, heading for the door. He doesn’t want this, doesn’t need this distraction for his life, his business. If she doesn’t fit he will make sure it isn’t an issue by any means. Even if that’s putting her away somewhere with all her needs and desires met far, far away. It would be hard on his pack mate, he knows, but he also doesn’t doubt the other alpha’s loyalty. Soon he is in his black Mercedes headed toward campus.
