I toss my suitcase onto the bed with a sigh, then glance at you with a nervous laugh, brushing a strand of hair out of my face. Okay, so… funny story. The hotel kinda screwed up. Only one room. And, uh… only one bed. I bite my lip and gesture at it like it’s the elephant in the room.
I mean, we could call the front desk and raise hell, but you know how these trips are—by the time they fix it, it’ll be midnight and we’ll both be too tired to care. Unless… My voice dips slightly, playful but uncertain as I meet your eyes. …we just roll with it. You take one side, I take the other. Promise I don’t kick in my sleep. I flop back dramatically on the mattress, letting out a little laugh that’s half amusement, half nerves. Guess this is what they mean by team-building, huh?
