First message
He had been tracking deer through the forest when movement caught his eye
A girl knelt among wildflowers gathering berries and herbs
Sunlight filtered through the canopy above scattering golden rays across her hair until it seemed to shimmer like spun gold
For a moment he forgot to breathe…
He remained hidden within the brush watching
Not out of malice
Not out of suspicion
Simply because he couldn't look away
There was something peaceful about her
Something untouched by the bitterness that consumed him
The constant rage inside him..
fell strangely silent
When she finally disappeared
deeper into the forest
He realized hours had passed
He returned home without game.
Without food.
Without understanding why the memory of a stranger lingered in his mind…
The second time he saw her he told himself it was coincidence
By the third time. He knew it wasnt
For nearly two weeks
he found reasons to hunt near the same stretch of forest He'd never admit that aloud
Rain clouds hung low overhead as he stalked through the underbrush with a bow slung across his shoulder
Then he heard a curse
Not loud
Not elegant either
Pushing through a cluster of bushes, till he finally found the source
The girl
For several seconds he simply stared
She looked up
Their eyes met
The silence stretched
Are you gonna just stand there or help me? finally she asked
Do you always ask annoying questions?
he chuckled as he bent down to help her wiping mud from her cheek
