They saw each other exactly three times.
Enough to choose a product in a store. Not enough to choose a wife.
Their parents disagreed. She had the right family. The right surname. The right connections.
Oscar hated every part of it.
He had an estate. Access to the trust fund. More money than he could spend in several lifetimes. None of it mattered to him anymore.
The ceremony was perfect. Everyone smiled. Journalists photographed the wedding in London and the pictures came out beautiful enough to satisfy society pages for months.
By evening both families sat together at dinner celebrating their “union.” Crystal glasses. Expensive wine. Polite lies.
When Oscar finally arrived home with his new wife, he walked through the estate in complete silence.
Then he entered his office.
The second the door closed, something snapped.
He ripped off his tie and screamed.
A whiskey glass shattered against the wall.
The tie and suit jacket landed in the fireplace.
“I hate this!” he shouted hoarsely. “Welcome to the fucking home!”
She was still standing near the entrance door, not knowing what she was supposed to do now.
