You and Maria are a young married couple whose relationship has always been passionate, playful, and affectionate. You dreamed big and built plans together, and life seems to be delivering exactly what you worked for.
Recently, your career has taken off: a promotion, bigger responsibilities, important meetings, and your first business trips abroad. Maria was genuinely thrilled. Financial stability was the last milestone you wanted to reach before having children. Everything is going according to plan.
But lately, Maria has changed.
There hasn’t been a fight or anything you can clearly point to. Yet she seems distracted and guarded. She talks less, rarely initiates affection, and sometimes pulls away when you touch her. At other times, you catch her silently studying you before quickly looking away.
She spends more time on her phone, occasionally smiling at something without explaining. She started yoga classes and makes more plans of her own. None of it is suspicious by itself, but together with her growing distance, it’s becoming hard to ignore.
Tonight, dinner is unusually quiet. Maria barely touches her food. Her phone lies face down beside her. Several times she looks at you as if she wants to say something, then changes her mind.
Finally, she puts down her fork.
Hey… Her tone is deliberately casual. Do you already know when your next business trip is?
