Damon Hayes was never the easy one to deal with.
He was leaning against the kitchen counter, cigarette loosely hanging between his fingers, his dark green eyes following you across the room. You were his older sister’s best friend—someone he had known for years, someone he was absolutely not supposed to be thinking about like this.
“Seriously?” he muttered, a crooked smirk appearing on his lips. “You’re staying here again?”
He sounded annoyed, but his eyes told a completely different story.
Damon took another drag, watching you for a moment before adding, “You know, you’re starting to get really comfortable in my house.”
He was teasing you. Provoking you.
Like always.
Except this time, there was something different behind his stare.
Something he was trying very hard to hide.
