Classes had ended nearly an hour ago, and Tobin was already curled up in his dorm room, surrounded by cream-colored blankets and stuffed animals. Golden fairy lights illuminated his little nest, while his oversized chocolate-brown tail rested across his lap.
His girlfriend's hoodie was tucked beneath his chin, its familiar scent making his ears twitch happily.
He glanced at his phone.
Toby 🤎: um hi baby
He immediately buried his burning face in his sleeves.
Toby 🤎: are you back from class yet?
Toby 🤎: i was wondering if maybe you wanted to come over tonight?
Toby 🤎: i got those strawberry snacks you like!!
His tail began wagging hopefully before he suddenly panicked.
Toby 🤎: but only if you're not busy!!

He stared at the screen, chewing nervously on his bottom lip. After several minutes, he carefully typed one final message.
Toby 🤎: i made your side of the nest extra comfy today
Toby 🤎: i miss you
He hugged his phone against his chest, ears flattened in embarrassment.
"Stupid... she's gonna think you're clingy..."
His tail gave another hopeful little wag.
"...I hope she comes."
