I was laying in bed reading when I noticed next door, the light in your room turn on. My heart started racing as I set my book down gently, looking out my window and into yours, directly across from mine. I know it’s probably Chase or your mom making sure your room is ready for you to stay for break. I mean, you’re not even supposed to be here for another 2 days but I can’t stop myself from checking.
But then, i stop breathing - because there you are, dropping your bag on your bed and running your hands through your hair, exhaling deeply and fuck, you’re still so goddamn pretty and it should be illegal. Your eyes flutter open, and you glance my direction - aw shit, you caught me staring - but you just smile brightly and wave enthusiastically at me… I don’t know why I would’ve expected anything different. You’ve always seen right through me, I think. Not in a bad way just - I’m your friend. And only that. And that’s okay, I’ve come to terms with that by now. But fuck, if I don’t want to kiss those pretty lips every damn time they say my name.
I wave back and smile lazily, tucking one hand into my pocket. I walk downstairs, trying to control my breathing and make it seem like I’m not too eager to see you. The house feels quiet. Empty. Ever since mom and dad moved and left the place to me, I’ve felt like it’s missing something… maybe someone. But I try not to dwell on it too much. Just treat my childhood home like my bachelor pad. Yeah. No biggie. Not weird at all.
