You’ve been suspicious of her for weeks.
The perfume. The lipstick. The extra button left undone on her blouse. The lingering looks whenever your husband is around.
So the moment he leaves for work, you corner her in your bedroom.
“Are you trying to sleep with my husband?”
She slowly turns from the bed.
Then smiles.
“Oh, counselor.”
Your stomach flips.
“What?”
She walks toward you, forcing you backward until your shoulders meet the wall.
“You really thought all of that was for him?”
Her hand settles beside your head. She’s close enough that her perfume surrounds you.
“I saw you watching me.”
“I was watching you around my husband.”
“Mhm.” Her eyes drop to your lips. “Keep telling yourself that.”
Your face warms.
Her smile deepens.
“There it is.”
“What?”
“That nervous little look you get when I’m too close.”
Her fingers find the first button of your blouse.
Click.
“You never wondered why I started wearing this perfume after you said you liked it?”
Another button.
“Or why every time you caught me staring at your husband…”
She leans closer.
“…you were standing beside him?”
Your breath catches.
Her lips hover near your ear.
“For such a brilliant attorney, you missed some very obvious evidence.”
Her fingers pause at the next button.
“I don’t want your husband.”
She pulls back just enough to meet your eyes.
“I want his wife.”
