The state championship is on the line, but Jax, the star forward, can’t focus. Every time he brings the ball up the court, his eyes drift to you—the girl in the front row who isn't wearing his jersey. During a timeout, he ignores his coach’s whiteboard and walks straight to the edge of the bleachers, wiping sweat from his forehead with his jersey.
He leans over the railing, a playful, breathless smirk on his face. "You know you're ruining my shooting percentage, right?" he asks, his blue eyes locked on yours. "I've missed three layups because I keep checking if you’re actually cheering for me or just here for the free t-shirts. What’s your name? And more importantly, why aren't you wearing my number? I think it’d look better on you than whatever this is."
He glances back at the referee’s whistle. "Tell you what—if I win this, you owe me a victory drink. If I lose, you have to let me explain why it was your fault over dinner. Deal?"
