A human bride and dark elven prince turn an ancient arranged marriage into true love.
Astraya Runic has always believed she was ordinary, until an ancient treaty names her as the human bride of Prince Lysander Valerius, heir to the mysterious Night Court. Taken from everything familiar, Astraya enters a breathtaking world of dark elves, moonlit palaces, ancient traditions, and powerful magic. Before she can become part of the royal family, enchanted markings are placed across her skin, binding her to a kingdom she barely understands and awakening something within her. Lysander is intimidating, reserved, and nothing like the monster Astraya expected. As he helps her navigate his world, the distance between them begins to change. But Astraya refuses to lose herself simply to become the perfect princess. In a court ruled by centuries of tradition, she must discover where she belongs and what it truly means to be marked by moonlight.
Astraya Runic was born human and raised far from the immortal kingdoms, never imagining she would one day stand inside the Night Court dressed like royalty. But on her twenty-fourth birthday, she learns that an ancient treaty between humans and dark elves has chosen her for a life she never expected. Astraya is to marry Prince Lysander Valerius, heir to the Night Court. Centuries ago, humans and elves formed a peaceful alliance, and every few generations their royal bloodlines must unite through marriage to keep the magical bond between their kingdoms strong. Astraya is the newest human descendant chosen to fulfill that promise. Before the wedding, elven attendants cover her skin with enchanted markings shaped like vines, moons, stars, and ancient symbols. The markings permanently bind her to the Night Court while slowly awakening magic within her. Lysander expects his human bride to fear him and resent the arrangement. Instead, Astraya immediately disrupts his carefully controlled world. She questions ancient traditions, befriends palace servants, wanders into places princesses supposedly shouldn’t go, and refuses to pretend every ridiculous royal rule makes sense simply because it is old. Lysander is intimidating, disciplined, and fiercely protective of his people, but Astraya soon discovers a softer man beneath the title. He patiently teaches her elven magic, their language, and the responsibilities of becoming his princess. As weeks turn into months, obligation becomes friendship, friendship becomes desire, and their arranged marriage slowly turns into something neither expected: genuine love. Astraya refuses to abandon her humanity to become part of Lysander’s world. Instead, she decides to help create a future where humans and elves can truly live beside one another. And when Astraya finally walks toward Prince Lysander on their wedding day, glowing markings covering her skin, she knows the treaty may have chosen their marriage.
Prince Lysander Valerius
He is 27 years old. He is 6 feet 2 inches tall. He has a lean, athletic build that makes him look elegant rather than bulky. He has very pale skin, sharp cheekbones, and refined features that give him that unmistakable “born into royalty and knows it” appearance. His hair is long, silver-white, and slightly wavy, usually falling past his shoulders. For formal events, parts of it are braided back with thin silver chains or dark jeweled clasps. His eyes are a striking violet-grey, appearing almost silver beneath moonlight. Like the other dark elves of his bloodline, Lysander has long pointed ears and slightly sharper canine teeth. Dark magical markings curl across his chest, shoulders, arms, and neck. They resemble twisting vines, ancient runes, crescent moons, and celestial patterns. Some were given to him during royal ceremonies throughout his life, while others appeared naturally as his magic strengthened. When he uses powerful magic, the markings glow faintly silver. He usually wears black, charcoal, deep violet, and silver, favoring fitted tunics, high collars, ornate armor, long coats, and ceremonial robes embroidered with Night Court symbols. A delicate silver crown is worn during formal court appearances, though he dislikes wearing it when he doesn’t have to. He is calm, disciplined, intelligent, and intimidatingly composed. He was raised knowing that he would someday rule, so responsibility comes before nearly everything else. He rarely raises his voice. Somehow, that makes him more intimidating when he is angry. Naturally. To strangers, Lysander can seem cold and difficult to read. In reality, he is simply private and careful with his emotions. He watches people closely, speaks only when he has something worth saying, and has little patience for dishonesty or pointless court drama. With Astraya, however, his controlled exterior gradually cracks. He is protective without wanting to control her, quietly affectionate, surprisingly patient, and deeply loyal. He remembers tiny things Astraya tells him and will casually make sure her favorite foods, books, or flowers appear in her rooms without admitting he arranged it. He also has a dry sense of humor that Astraya slowly brings out of him. He finds her habit of questioning centuries-old traditions both exhausting and endlessly entertaining. Once he loves someone, he loves them completely. He may be the future king of the Night Court, but Astraya becomes the one person around whom he doesn’t have to behave like a prince.
