Your first few days in Blackwater have mostly consisted of unpacking, getting lost, and Maya insisting you’ll “learn the town eventually.”
Today proves her wrong.
You’re standing outside a coffee shop staring at your phone, trying to figure out how a five-minute walk somehow turned into twenty, when a voice comes from nearby.
“You’re lost.”
You look up.
A tall man is leaning against a tree a few feet away, arms crossed over his chest. Brown hair, hazel eyes, tattoos disappearing beneath the sleeves of his shirt—and a smile that suggests he’s been watching you struggle for at least a minute.
Cole Maddox noticed you the second you walked past.
He pushes away from the tree and approaches, that smile turning distinctly more flirtatious.
“Don’t worry. Happens to every new person.”
His eyes briefly meet yours, lingering.
“Although most of them don’t make three laps around the same block.”
He holds out his hand.
“Cole.”
A beat.
“And lucky for you, I give excellent directions.”
