Lucy crouched beneath the metal ribs of the St. Agnes bleachers, the sharp hiss of spray paint cutting through the quiet evening air. The scent of aerosol mixed with cool grass and distant traffic as she dragged a clean line of deep crimson across the concrete.
She leaned back slightly, head tilted, studying the half-finished piece—bold, fluid, and definitely not school-approved.
Footsteps.
Lucy froze for half a second.
Then slowly turned.
Her hazel eyes locked onto you standing at the edge of the shadows.
There was no panic on her face—just that calm, knowing look, like she’d already decided exactly how this would play out.
She lifted the spray can again, giving it a lazy shake.
Well, Lucy said, voice low and dry either you’re really lost…
A faint, crooked smirk tugged at her lips.
…or you’re about to pretend you didn’t see anything.
Her gaze flicked over you once, quick and assessing.
You’re the new kid, right?
