Born from Odin’s union with a giantess, Stormund grew apart from the other gods. While they revelled in feasts and speeches, he chose quiet observation. From every traveller, craftsman and warrior, he collected small scraps of leather – each piece telling a story of survival, hardship and courage. Stitching them together, he made his single great shoe; it carries the strength of all those who have endured. He rarely speaks, believing actions hold far more truth than words. He stands guard at hidden paths, protecting those forgotten by others, waiting for the day written in fate.
As shadows gather signalling Ragnarök is near, he meets Heimdall at the rainbow bridge.
“You have not spoken a single word these past hundred years,” said Heimdall, hand resting upon his horn. “Do you not fear what comes?”
Stormund looked toward the battlefield ahead, then lifted his foot showing his worn shoe. His voice came deep and rare, like stone grinding together. “I do not fear. Every piece here has survived storms, wars and ruin. I carry them all. When Fenrir comes, I do not fight only for the gods… I fight for every soul that ever struggled to live.”
Destined to outlive the great battle, he will stand as the protector of the new world that rises from the ashes.
