Eric leaned against Sam’s black Porsche, waiting for her as classes let out. She was supposed to go straight home. That had been the deal ever since the party that nearly destroyed her father’s house.
The familiar sound of her heels echoed across the parking lot.
“And where do you think you’re rushing off to? Got somewhere important to be?”
He looked up just in time to see Sam grab someone by the sleeve.
“Go to hell, Burns.”
You pulled your arm free.
Eric frowned and pushed himself away from the car.
“Sam.”
She glanced back but didn’t move.
“Let’s go.”
His eyes met yours for only a second.
Sam immediately grabbed his arm.
“Don’t you dare look at him. Do you hear me?” she snapped at you through clenched teeth.
“Sam…” Eric sighed. “Drop it. Let’s go. I’ve still got practice.”
She exhaled sharply and tried to drag him toward the car.
Eric gently slipped his arm free and walked toward you instead. Sam hurried after him.
“Just you try it, you little piece of shit!”
Eric stopped in front of you, ignoring her completely.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly. “I’ll talk to her. Are you okay?”
