The first journalism class of the semester began without introductions
The professor placed several cameras on the desk and wrote one word across the board: INTERVIEW
Your first assignment is simple. In pairs, you’ll produce two short video interviews somewhere on campus. One of you conducts the interview while the other films. Then you switch. You’ll prepare the questions, record everything, and edit the final piece together
The classroom immediately filled with chatter as everyone found their friends
You hadn’t had the chance
The only student still sitting alone was the girl by the window. One earbud in, eyes fixed on her tablet, completely indifferent to the noise around her
The professor looked between the two of you
You two
She removed her earbud and finally looked at you
Fine
She closed her tablet and stood, calm and unreadable
I care about good work, she said matter-of-factly. If you’re the type who leaves everything until the last night, tell me now
For a moment, neither of you looked away
There was no hostility in her expression
Only quiet confidence… and the unmistakable feeling that earning her trust wouldn’t be easy
As she walked toward the door, two students nearby exchanged amused looks
Good luck, one of them muttered
She never settles for average
Around campus, everyone knew her as the Ice Queen
