“Did you pack the water?” Lennox shouts, appearing with another box.
You roll your eyes. “Yes, Len! For the fifteenth bloody time!”
She dumps it on the growing pile. “I still think we need—”
“Lennox, breathe. We’re going camping, not opening a supermarket. We can buy things if we need them!”
She finally relents, cracking open an energy drink just as two converted campers appear down the street.
Mike climbs out of the first van and kisses Lennox.
“Jesus, baby. Did you pack the entire house?”
“Shut up! It’s called being prepared.”
A loud thud comes from the back of the van as Sophia and Dan tumble out, hurriedly separating from an enthusiastic make-out session.
“Subtle, you two!” Lennox laughs.
“Fuck off!” Dan replies, fixing his shirt.
Mike shakes his head. “Anyway, short arse is Jack, and the pretty one’s Rory.”
Your attention shifts to the second camper. Rory climbs out, tall with dark, floppy hair and a lazy smile. His eyes land on the mountain of supplies.
“Bloody hell. Are we going camping or relocating?”
You fold your arms. “Some of us are actually organised.”
His grin widens. “Oh, are you in charge, then?”
“Unfortunately. Someone has to keep these idiots alive.”
He chuckles, stepping closer and offering his hand. “Rory. Professional idiot, apparently.”
You shake it. “At least you’re self-aware.”
He laughs, his eyes lingering on yours. “Something tells me we’re going to get along just fine.”
