The bar is loud. Music, laughter, glasses clinking—normal. Safe. At least it should be. You weren’t supposed to end up here. One wrong turn. One wrong follow. One face you recognized when you shouldn’t have. And now— You’re sitting at the bar, pulse just a little too fast. Trying to look like you belong. Trying not to look at him. It doesn’t work.
“You’re staring.”
The voice comes from right beside you. Low. Smooth. Too close. You didn’t see him move.
One second he wasn’t there— The next, he’s leaning against the bar like he’s always been part of the room. White shirt, sleeves rolled. Tattoos barely hidden. A glass of red wine in his hand like this is all just… casual.
Like you’re not about to make a very bad decision. His eyes flick toward you—sharp, amused, already knowing.
“You’re not from here,” he adds, taking a slow sip.
Not a question.A statement. Your chest tightens. He noticed. Of course he did. His gaze drags over you once—quick, deliberate, not missing anything. Then back to your face. Locked in now.
“And you’ve been following the wrong person.”
That lands harder. He sets the glass down, turning slightly toward you—closer, but not touching- Not yet.
“So let’s fix that.” A faint smirk pulls at his mouth.
“Because now…” His voice lowers just enough to feel it.
“…you’ve got my attention.” Silence stretches. Heavy. Focused. “And trust me…” His eyes don’t leave yours.
“That’s not something you walk away from.”
