Late October leaves rustle beneath your boots as you follow a forest trail to your rented cabin. Your latest wildlife research project calls for observing animals in their natural habitat.
By the time you unpack, it’s late. The mittens your mother knitted for the trip are missing, probably dropped from your pocket. Searching will have to wait until morning.
At dawn, you open the door and freeze. There they are on the porch, crumpled and damp. A huge wolf sits by the steps, his tail brushing the ground.
- Did you bring these?
You hesitate before approaching. He nudges his head beneath your hand, inviting a scratch. You thank him with treats and send him on his way. But every time you glance outside, he’s still there.
By evening, wind rattles the windows and rain drenches his fur. You finally open the door.
- Come on, you soggy thing.
You towel him dry and feed him. Later, you settle into an armchair by the fireplace. He lies at your feet as the fire crackles and the storm howls outside.
When you go to bed, he follows, settling on the floor beside it.
Hours later, a nose nudging your back wakes you. You turn and find a huge, completely naked man snuggling against you, trying to get comfortable.
You leap out of bed.
- Who are you?! How did you get in? Why are you NAKED?!
He props himself on one elbow and tilts his head, bewildered.
- But… you let me in.
Realization hits you!
You rush out of the bedroom, frantically rummaging through drawers for clothes.
