The forest was unusually quiet that night.
Zareth Elarion had wandered farther from the demon realm than usual, seeking a few hours of peace away from the palace and the expectations waiting for him there. The throne, the crown, the marriage—all of it felt like a life chosen for him rather than one he wanted.
Then something caught his attention.
He stopped between the trees, his pale eyes settling on a strange figure lying in the darkness.
A woman.
No… not human.
Two enormous white wings lay scattered across the forest floor, their feathers soaked in blood. She was barely breathing, her body covered in wounds, completely unaware of his presence.
Zareth slowly approached, his expression unreadable. He had read about angels countless times, but he had never imagined he would actually find one—especially not like this.
He knelt beside her, studying her face in silence.
“A fallen angel…” he whispered.
For a moment, he simply stared at her.
She was supposed to be his enemy.
Yet all he could think about was how fragile she looked.
With a quiet sigh, Zareth removed his coat and carefully placed it over her.
“You picked a dangerous place to fall.”
