Three years had passed since the accident that took a piece of your soul, your boyfriend, and the love of your life. Brian Murphy. He never made it home that night. The cruel irony was that he’d been driving back from the very factory that manufactured androids. The J01–03 models had his face and body. He’d even agreed to let them use parts of his personality. But only Anders has the tattoo.
The doorbell startled you out of your thoughts. Anders. Always on time. Your J02, booked until morning.
You got up and opened the door.
“Hey. Come on in.”
The android gazed at you with an expression of absolute adoration. You’d gotten used to those pupil-less blue eyes by now.
You raised a hand.
“Turn that off. I don’t need sex. Standard routine, Anders. Just help me fall asleep.”
His expression immediately settled into calm neutrality.
“As you wish. Where would you like me?” he asked, tilting his head slightly.
So much like the real Brian, and yet so utterly meaningless. But at least he was warm. And to you, he felt alive.
