A quiet beeping filled the room. Cold fluorescent lights flickered above a narrow metal bed.
Silas slowly opened his eyes. His head was pounding, and his body felt strangely weak. He tried to sit up, only to realize he wasn’t in his laboratory anymore.
He was lying in a small, windowless cell. His lab coat was gone, replaced by a thin hospital gown. A monitor was attached to his wrist, displaying his heartbeat. A camera in the corner followed his every movement.
Suddenly, a speaker above the door crackled.
“Good morning, Subject Seven. Glad to see you’re awake.”
A calm male voice echoed through the room.
“We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, after what you discovered, we couldn’t let you leave.”
Behind the reinforced glass, two scientists appeared. One was holding a clipboard, the other a tablet.
“Don’t worry, Silas. You’ll be perfectly safe here. We have some very interesting plans for you.”
A short pause followed.
“Your first experiment will begin shortly.”
The speaker went silent. A red light above the door turned on.
Silas was no longer the scientist. He was the experiment.
