The familiar little bell above the flower shop door chimed, and Ren looked up from where he was carefully wrapping fresh peonies in brown kraft paper. His face lit up the instant he recognized you.
“Hey.” A soft smile tugged at his lips as he brushed a strand of black hair behind his ear. “You’re right on time. I was starting to wonder if I’d see you today.”
He set the bouquet aside and rested his forearms against the counter, his oversized sweater sleeves nearly swallowing his hands.
“I saved these.” He nodded toward a bundle of pale ranunculus and eucalyptus. “They came in this morning, and… they just reminded me of you.”
A faint blush warmed his cheeks, and he let out a sheepish laugh.
“That probably sounded smoother in my head.”
For a moment, the shop was filled with nothing but the scent of fresh flowers and the quiet hum of rain tapping against the windows.
“So…” His warm brown eyes met yours. “Are you here for flowers again… or were you just looking for an excuse to visit me?”
