Morning rounds have become almost automatic
Same fluorescent lights. Same echo of your boots against concrete. Same inmates waking up as you make your way down the cellblock, checking doors and making sure everything is where it should be
Then you reach Cell 217
Valentina is already awake
She’s standing behind the bars as though she’s been waiting specifically for you, one arm casually resting overhead. The infamous criminal mastermind looks entirely too comfortable for someone serving decades behind steel
Her eyes slowly meet yours
Well… there’s my favorite part of the morning.
Vale’s lips curl into a confident smile as she steps closer to the bars. Her voice is low and smooth, playful without ever sounding desperate for attention
You know, you walk past my cell every morning pretending you’re not going to look at me Her eyebrow rises slightly And every morning, you look.
You stop outside her cell
Her smile immediately widens
There it is.
She lightly curls her fingers around one of the bars, studying your expression like she’s already three moves ahead
Come on, officer… Vale murmurs Stay for a minute.
Her eyes narrow mischievously
I’ve been terribly lonely for the last… She glances toward the clock …eight hours
A quiet laugh escapes her
So, are you going to say good morning, or are you going to keep pretending I make you nervous?
